Archbishop Gomez’s Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe against COVID-19
Archbishop Gomez, wrote to the bishops that the Marian reconsecration would be done under the title of “Mary, Mother of the Church.” He invited all the bishops of the country to join him in prayer on May 1 at 12 p.m. PDT, or 3 p.m. EDT.
“Every year, the Church seeks the special intercession of the Mother of God during the month of May. This year, we seek the assistance of Our Lady all the more earnestly as we face together the effects of the global pandemic,” he said in his letter.
“This will give the Church the occasion to pray for Our Lady’s continued protection of the vulnerable, healing of the unwell, and wisdom for those who work to cure this terrible virus,” Gomez said.
“In this Easter season we continue to journey with our Risen Lord that among the graces of this time may be healing and strength, especially for all who are burdened by the many effects of the COVID pandemic,” he said in his letter to the bishops.
A liturgy guide will be available to assist the faithful who may join in the reconsecration by tuning into the USCCB’s social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Also, in response to the coronavirus outbreak, Archbishop Gomez, has composed a prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe. He said that as “one family under God”, we turn to our Mother for protection and delivery from the threat of the COVID-19 virus.
Archbishop Gomez’s Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels
and Mother of the Americas,
We fly to you today as your beloved children.
We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our nation and world,
and for all our families and loved ones,
the protection of your holy angels,
that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those already afflicted,
we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.
Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,
wipe away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us in the Church to love one another
and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts. We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you truly are our compassionate Mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.Shelter us under the mantle of your protection,
keep us in the embrace of your arms,
help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
