OUR LADY OF AMERICA
Be Delivered From Evil

A Black Christmas in Florida

A Black Christmas in Florida
                                                            Dan Lynch

I recently saw and heard and clapped through the best Nativity musical drama and dance that I have ever seen.

The Black Nativity was written by poet Langston Hughes. It was performed by the West Coast Black Theater Troupe of Sarasota, Florida. Through narration, drama and dance it told the story of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ from the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, through her Visitation, the Nativity, and the Holy Family’s Flight to Egypt and return.

The costumes, narration, lyrics and high-energy music and dancing made the Good News come alive filled with spirit, joy and hope. Hope is the confident expectation of the divine blessings that God wants to bestow upon us. So, let us be hopeful!

I hope that your Christmas will be happy and holy, whether Black, White or any other color!

O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.

You may watch a short video clip here of the performance. May it put a smile on your face as it did on mine!
